Annie McKay is loving her new job at Merson's bakery and cafe, loving the church she's attending and loving the people who have adopted her into their circle of friends. Life seems to be going great - even with the 345am alarm clock every day. At least, it's going great until she accidentally creates the town's newest delectable obsession leaving her crazy busy at work, running into old coworkers and then there's Zach, the attractive music pastor at church, who is always asking her out. It could be love, but that would open up a huge box from Annie's past that is best left locked up tight in the attic of her heart...and surely God wouldn't want her to be opening it back up. Right? With the help of good friends like Laurie Holbrook, a few hundred cinnamon rolls and a lot of prayer, Annie is about to discover that life isn't always taking the easy, smooth highway but that the back roads, though bumpy and painful, can also be full of fun.

First of all, let me say that I love Erynn Mangum’s books. They are some of the few books I love to pick up over and over again. Her characters are lovable and you just want to be a part of the groups of people. Whether I’m following Laurie Holbrook (now Palmer), Maya Davis, Paige Alder or Annie McKay, I feel like I’m with friends. And I’ve been looking forward to the conclusion of Annie’s story. So, before I get to that, let me put on my pet peeve hat here for a few seconds. There were several major content errors in this book (and within a matter of a few paragraphs span and from page 1). Annie mentions she got a call for a job last week and then a few paragraphs later she says she went on a six week road trip after she got the call. She talks about going to work the first day and using her key but then the second day her boss texts here and tells her where he hides the key (did he take the first key away?). Annie talks about getting to sleep in the next day because she’s off and she’s got church and then she says she’s got to get up and go to work. And for fans of the Lauren Holbrook series, there’s even more errors like this. Even from “Match Made” to “Bake Me a Match.” In “Match Made,” Zach likes seafood and Annie hates it. In “Bake me a Match,” it’s the opposite. Annie’s eating seafood and Zach is giving her a hard time about it.
Ok, off my soap box now. While all of that was a little distracting, you can’t help but feel like you’re a part of this group when you’re reading these books. Laurie Holbrook’s ability to draw the characters into her circle extends beyond the page to the reader. Annie’s struggles with her new job and trying to reconcile her past with her present resounded with me. Lexi’s news made me tear up (and no, I’m not giving you more details. Spoilers). And even with all of the errors, I would still read another book in this series (or maybe another book in the other two series, hint, hint).

Bake Me A Match The Lauren Holbrook series Book 5 edition by Erynn Mangum Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
The fifth book in the Lauren Holbrook series was a fantastic addition to the series. Bake Me A Match continued Annie's story with her new job as well as with her friendships with Laurie and the rest of her friends, and her relationship with Zach. It was such a fun read and I enjoyed all of the delicious baked goods (recipes should have been included ) ) that Annie created. Erynn's characters are so relatable and I loved that she showed Annie's growth relationally and spiritually with lessons that the reader benefits from as well. It was a wonderful ending to a great series and is a book that I would definitely recommend. I am excited for her new book that is coming out in the Fall!
Anne "Annie" has a past that haunts her and she doesn't talk about it. She has made it her life to work jobs where she can move every few months and avoid ties with anyone.
She has accepted a new position as a baker, something that comes naturally for her. She must decide if staying in one place and trusting God with her new friends, church and potential beau is possible or if she will cut ties and move again.
I love the characters in this line of books. They seem like friends of mine as I read their thoughts and interactions. Very relatable storyline with humor always in the mix. Looking forward to more with these characters!
Why do authors leave you hanging? Annie McKay's story continues in this fifth installment as she joins Merson's as head baker. Lots of appearances by familiar characters and a path of self discovery make this a charming read. I just want to know what happens next.
Not only was the editing for grammatical errors pretty bad, it was bad for the storyline as well. As a teen the first three books of the series was so magical for me because of all the ups and downs . as a young adult it was nice to be able to see how the original crew was doing in the "annie " books but it all just felt kind of dry. There were no turning plot points really, aside from Annie finally revealing here past but I felt like the presentation for it was silly (like there was no creative thought put into it, it was just a regurgitation of the archetypal abusive past). There were a lot of cliches and repetition of phrasing (like the obsessive description of what Annie and Zack were wearing but none of the other characters, the word cranberry and "good night!" as an exclamation were used entirely too much). All in all I wasn't captured like I was with the first three books and it came off like a 15 year old wrote a fan fiction of their ideal perfect life, yes positivity is a great writing model but it was too much of a fairy tail story to learn a moral from.
On a more positive note the spiritual aspect of the novel was brought in really well, just like it was with the first three. The narration was delivered well too.
Loved this book. I could relate to a lot of what the main female character struggled through in this small town. Again, as the other books have been — it draws you into the storyline as being a part of the characters and experience everything you are reading. I would recommend this to anyone who likes stories like this. Nothing was boring or uninteresting in this book. It's a book as were the other ones I couldn't put down. I read the last several chapters to now. Which is 604 am. I hope the author is coming out with another book to this one in the near future. I hated to see this storyline end.
I love everything Erynn writes! I was so excited for this new addition to the Lauren Holbrook series, that I preordered it at soon as I got the notice. This is the second in a series that features Anne McKay. She has left the accounting job that she had in Match Made, and is the new baker in Shawn Merson's little café. The characters from the first of the series, are all still part of her life, as is the youth pastor, Zach Murphy.
Erynn is just the best ever at making me laugh. She provides real insight into people, but the laughter is her greatest gift. I read and re-read all her stuff. I can hardly wait for the next book!
